Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Treats
BBC2 here! We know that Max can smell out peanut butter wherever he is. When I have some on toast in the morning he is my new best friend! So with that in mind I made him these treats and he, his brother Teddy and their friends seem to like them! I must say as a side note that when we are out for his morning walk I seem to be very popular among Max’s canine friends due to the treats I take, so much so, that one or two come running when they see us and sit look very expectant at me as if to say ”well I’m sitting, what you got today?” and I do feel under pressure to deliver😃
Ingredients:
225g/7 ½ oz plain flour
1 egg
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 banana
¼ cup peanut butter
½ tablespoon of oil
Method:
Preheat oven to 170 Fan, lightly grease two baking sheets using the ½ tablespoon of oil.
Put the flour and baking powder in the food processor and pulse for a second or two, in a bowl using a fork mash the banana and then incorporate the peanut butter till you have a smooth mixture. Now with the processor on low speed add the egg and run it for a minute, then stop the processor and add the peanut butter and banana mixture. Then run the processor at just under medium speed until the mixture comes together in a ball clean from the side, the mixture should be smooth and not sticky, if it is this could be due to the size of the banana, just lightly flour your work surface and knead the mixture until it is smooth. Then roll it out to about ¼ inch thickness, cut into strips and cut the strips into stamp size pieces, place on the baking sheets, they can be close as they will not expand that much, bake for about 20 minutes or until dry and golden brown, leave to cool on the baking sheets as this will help to take out any remaining moisture.
Hope your furry friends enjoy them too!
Teddy, Max’s brother, really enjoyed these and kept nudging the container for more, I think with a pocket full of these as training treats, he could become the next Pudsey!
